Rola Bleik is a Lebanese-Canadian [visual artist], born in Beirut. Her work is executed in a range of media, including drawing, water colour, and acrylic painting, and is influenced by her early experiences living in a port city on the Mediterranean Coast. Like the city which marks the crossroads between the East and West, the sophisticated and cosmopolitan blend with the provincial and parochial in her work. She represents the contradictions in both traditional and abstract styles, relying on the expressive use of rich colour and bold brush strokes. The end result captures what she feels is the best from both worlds-an Eastern aesthetic imbued with a Western spirit.
